Shotgun I
Prerequisite – none
This is an intensive one day course covering the primary skills involved in fighting with a shotgun. This course will focus on safety and effective gun handling techniques designed to work under stress. This is an all-day session Saturday, starting at 8:30am.
Topics covered in this course will include:
- Safety at home and on the range 
- Basics of marksmanship 
- Loading, reloading and unloading 
- Multiple targets 
- Firearms safety, including considerations specific to shotguns 
- Historical context and development of the defensive shotgun 
- Selection of the fighting shotgun 
- Modifications and Accessories 
- Ammunition selection and capabilities 
- Patterning for optimum performance 
- Nomenclature and mechanical operation 
- Shooting technique 
- Loading/reloading techniques 
- Safe storage and ready conditions, including cruiser ready 
- Care and maintenance 
At the conclusion of this course the student should feel confident in their ability to:
- Safely handle their shotgun 
- Deliver high speed accuracy at close range 
- Perform proper loading, reloading and unloading techniques 
What to Bring:
- Quality Shotgun, clean and oiled 
- 150 rounds of birdshot (lead not steel) 
- 20 rounds of 00 buck 
- 20 rounds of slug (optional) 
- Ammunition holder or pouch 
- Lunch (We will not be leaving the range during lunch) 
- Drinks (non-alcoholic) 
- Shooting glasses 
- Hearing protection 
- Sturdy shoes for outdoor wear 
- Weather appropriate clothes, including rain gear. (we train rain or shine)
