Meet the Instructor

Pat Symons, owner and principal instructor of Basic to Advanced Firearms Training, LLC, brings over 30 years of experience in firearm safety, marksmanship, and advanced training.

With a background in law enforcement and decades of hands-on instruction, he specializes in helping individuals progress from foundational skills to higher levels of proficiency with confidence and control.

Born and raised in Northern California, Pat grew up around firearms and began hunting at an early age. He earned a BA in Criminal Justice from CSU Sacramento and went on to serve as a law enforcement officer in both California and Oregon. His career, combined with ongoing advanced training and competitive handgun shooting, has built a deep foundation in both technical skill and real-world application.

Now retired, Pat is focused on expanding his training program and continuing to serve his community through professional instruction, including the integration of BRYNA less-lethal options.

As a father and grandfather, Pat cares deeply about safety—not just on the range, but at home and in everyday life. His goal is to help individuals and families feel more prepared, more confident, and better equipped to protect themselves responsibly.

Pat’s instruction is designed to meet students where they are—whether they are brand new or looking to refine and advance their skills. His teaching style emphasizes clear, step-by-step progression, ensuring that each student builds a strong foundation before moving into more advanced techniques.

There is no intimidation and no unnecessary pressure—just professional, structured training that supports growth at every level.

From first-time handling to advanced application, Pat’s focus is on building capable, confident, and responsible firearm owners—one skill at a time.
